Saint Mary’s Church, Whitchurch

Welcome to Saint Mary’s Church

Over the main altar is a stained glass window showing the crucifixion of Jesus. "So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull. There they crucified him"
John Chapter 19 verses 16 to 18.

St. Mary’s is a large and beautiful parish church in the centre of Whitchurch, Cardiff. The building naturally lends itself to more traditional forms of worship, such as Holy Communion and Evensong, and the congregation is warm and welcoming to visitors and people wanting to learn about Jesus.

Alongside the traditional services we offer Messy Church and a Youth Group for our younger families, and we are proud to say we are a registered ‘eco-church.’ We maintain our beautiful churchyard with a focus on conservation and the environment; setting aside some areas for bees and other pollinators, and providing bird boxes for our feathery friends. We also provide seating in the churchyard for our human friends! St Mary’s was built in 1884 but there has been a church on or near the site since the 14th century. St Mary’s is a glorious building with a wonderful balance of scale and intimacy. Its primary purpose is to be a sacred space where people gather together to worship of God, but it is also a brilliant concert venue with a fine pipe organ, and a popular venue for weddings. Call in and see us – we also make really good coffee!

We also have a large church hall available for hire.  For details click here.
